“Muir II” Mobile Astrobiology Station

Category: Asteroid Settlements

Description: A mobile asteroid base decamps around Jupiter to help study life on Europa before heading elsewhere in the solar system on its Comparative Astrobiology mission.  The engines on the colony are spread across the rear surface of the asteroid in a utilitarian fashion, but the living quarters and labs are two habitat rings from prefab toroidal space stations, modified so that “up” is along the colony’s axis of acceleration.  Several housing units have built up between the two rings, as well.

Medium/Tools Done entirely in Corel Painter IX.  Reference photos used for Jupiter and its moon.  I took a little artistic license and upped the light level in the outer solar system.
