About our speaker, Emilee Richardson:
A decade ago, Emilee Richardson sat in front of a laptop in the wee hours of the morning and watched the Curiosity rover land on Mars—a dedicated superfan. Now, she’s the voice of the rover on Twitter.
As digital and social media group supervisor at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Emilee oversees JPL’s social media team and helps tell the stories of the lab’s 30+ missions to an audience of nearly 14 million on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. She also spearheads strategic digital partnerships, and in her first year and a half, has worked on projects with Sesame Street, Disney, Columbia Records, the Library of Congress.
Prior to JPL, Emilee had a decade-long tenure at the Science Center of Iowa, where she led all communications, public relations and marketing functions of the organization and became a trusted science resource for the media and the community.
She is a native of Clarinda, Iowa, and a graduate of Drake University.
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is NASA’s only federally-funded research and development center and the agency’s leading center for robotic space exploration. Managed by Caltech in Pasadena, JPL is known for sending rovers—and helicopters—to Mars and building legendary probes that explore the farthest reaches of the solar system, like Cassini and the Voyagers. Less well known are its cutting-edge Earth science missions that advance humanity’s understanding of our home planet.
