Space Settlement Art Contest Chee Ming Wong Asteroid Settlement: Slingshot to the Galaxy

Asteroid Settlement: Slingshot to the Galaxy

by Chee Ming Wong
Category: Asteroid Settlements
First Place Winner, Asteroid Settlements, 2008 Calendar

Description: Images of the NEAR shoemaker asteroid provided for the generalised shape and study of asteroid surface. A cinematic wide screen shot was originally choosen to despict the NEO asteroid being mined for ore, and materials being actively used to produce a space colony/vessel (far left) whilst the asteroid itself provided for a hollowed out human settlement (thus also reducing space radiation).

Medium/Tools Used: The image was worked on initially in Corel painter IX, whilst further finer details were interchangably worked upon in Adobe Photoshop and Painter at the desired resolution.  The format size however proved challenging for compositional purposes as a cinematic wide screen shot was initially painted. The final product was a resultant compromise.
