Space Settlement Art Contest: Mars Gardens

Mars Gardens

by Alex Aurichio
Category: Martian Settlements
Winning entry, appeared in 2008 Calendar

Description: One of the first steps in terraforming Mars will be to adapt hardy Earth plants to grow in the thin CO2 rich atmosphere. Small “plantation” bases would be spread around the planet so that remote areas could be seeded. Once these plants gain a foothold, natural oxygen production will follow. Gradually the CO2 will be consumed by the plants and Mars will eventually be green and oxygen rich.

Medium/Tools Used: “Mars Gardens ” was created using Bryce 6, Poser 6, Photoshop CS2, with props and figures from daz3d.com.
